Frequently asked questions

What’s a typical day like?

Your child will participate in many age appropriate activities, based on our goals and guidelines. Children will have opportunities to explore centers, work in teacher-directed small groups or take part in large group activities. Your child will attend music class and go to the Book Nook for story time each week. Our art teacher will work with each class every other week and the children will also attend chapel every other week. Snack time and lunch times are social activities where the children and teachers sit to eat together and engage in conversation. Our students play outdoors for at least an hour each day. Time is spent on the playground or exploring one of the outdoor learning spaces on our 18 acre campus.

Can I do carpool?

Yes, carpool is offered for all children 2+. Our ones classes can start carpool in January.

How does carpool work?

You can stay in your car and a teacher or carpool helper will open the door on the side that your child sits. He or she will help your child unbuckle and walk them to the door where another staff member will escort your child to their designated classroom.

How does afternoon pick up work?

We do not offer carpool for pickup. You will pickup your child at a designated door at a pickup time that has been communicated to you. Different classes and age groups are dismissed at different times.

How do I get involved?

There are a variety of volunteer opportunities you will learn about from your class parent as well as NAPP.

If I need to pick up my child early, who do I call?

Please call us at the front office, 770.998.6667.

Am I allowed in the building?

Please view our COVID section for updated information.

What is the auction?

The auction is an event NAPP organizes as a fundraiser. Volunteers create custom gift baskets or receive donations to then offer at our online auction. You can learn more here.

Who do I contact regarding administrative issues?

Please contact Jennifer at jpicquet@northbrookumc.com or Liz at lmeinhardt@northbrookumc.com. Or call 770.998.6667.

Who do I contact regarding COVID concerns?

You can contact us at any time or look at our COVID page for the most recent updates.

Am I allowed to visit my child’s classroom?

Right now, we are allowing parents to visit the class while they are outdoors. We are not allowing volunteers in the building yet.

Can we play on school grounds outside of school hours?

Yes! Our playground will be open to families after 1:15 each school day. Please follow the rules that are posted!

How can I celebrate my child’s birthday in the classroom?

Each classroom celebrates birthdays differently! Your classroom teachers will tell you how they will celebrate your child.

Price?

Our prices vary depending on how many days your child is enrolled. We can provide an exact amount after you contact us.

How can parents get more involved?

There are numerous options for parent involvement. Parents are able to attend multiple classroom parties and volunteer opportunities throughout the year. We also have volunteer opportunities through NAPP, our parent organization.

Safety protocols?

Our building is equipped with hand sanitizing stations throughout the school, an ionization system on the HVAC system, and a security system/monitors. Only staff members can enter the building with a key fob. Parents and other visitors need to buzz the office before they are let inside. Jennifer and Liz have camera monitors in their offices to view who is at the door. There is also an intercom system that allows us to speak to people at the doors.

Please visit our COVID page for COVID-specific protocols.

What sort of curriculum can I expect for my child?

Our curriculum is based on children's interests and developmentally appropriate guidelines. But we do use the Reggio approach that you can learn more about here.

What sort of qualifications do teachers have?

A degree is required. If the teacher does not hold a degree in education, then we expect that teacher to earn a CDA credential and we guide them through that process and provide financial aid to earn this credential.

How is religion taught in the classroom?

Our chapel teacher chooses a theme each year and tells a bible story based on the theme each time the children are in chapel. Teacher will often re-tell the story throughout the week. Our older classes learn monthly memory verses and all of our classes learn several blessings to say before eating snack and lunch. Each class has a child bible in the room. In December, our school wide focus is on the Nativity and in the spring, we focus on the Easter story.
